NEW PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: HEMISPHERE'S NEW SCALABLE SMART ANTENNA, THE A222

OEM hardware for building your agriculture guidance & control systems

At Agritechnica 2017, Hemisphere debuted the scalable A222 GNSS Smart Antenna. Purpose-built for harsh outdoor applications, the A222 is ideal for both agriculture and basic indicate systems markets, and other markets requiring flexible positioning.

A222’s entry price is extremely competitive with the flexibility to scale and grow as your business expands and can be configured from L1-only to multi-GNSS, multi-frequency, RTK-capable. A222 adds a system component, empowering tractor and farm equipment manufacturers to deliver their own guidance and control solutions to their customers.

Designed to excel in challenging environments, the A222 uses Hemisphere’s powerful Athena™ RTK engine and is Atlas® L-band capable. Easy-to-mount and customizable configurations make the A222 one of the most versatile smart antennas available. A222’s dual-Serial, CAN, and pulse output options are compatible with almost any industry-standard interface.

NEW SERVICE SPOTLIGHT: HEMISPHERE ANNOUNCES MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS TO ITS ATLAS® GNSS GLOBAL CORRECTION SERVICE

Atlas continues to deliver flexible and scalable corrections and now offers instant global sub-meter positioning

At Agritechnica 2017, Hemisphere announced a series of major enhancements to its Atlas GNSS Global Correction Service, including Atlas Basic, Atlas AutoSeed, and the addition of global ionospheric modeling to the system. Atlas is a flexible, scalable, and industry-leading GNSS-based global L-band correction service, providing robust performance and correction data for GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou, at market-leading prices. Delivering its correction signals via L-band satellites at accuracies ranging from meter to sub-decimeter levels, Atlas also leverages approximately 200 reference stations worldwide, providing coverage to virtually the entire globe.

Using real-time global ionospheric data, Atlas adjusts its corrections accordingly, providing instantaneous convergence for sub-meter accuracy. Atlas’ new AutoSeed technology allows users to suspend Atlas use for any period, and upon returning to their last location, AutoSeed rapidly re-converges to a high-accuracy converged position.

Atlas is available on all Hemisphere Atlas-capable single- and multi-frequency, multi-GNSS hardware and complements third-party GNSS receivers by allowing them to use Atlas corrections with Hemisphere’s innovative SmartLink™ and BaseLink™ capabilities. When using multi-frequency hardware, Atlas corrects more satellites than ever before, to create faster convergence times, and is robust and reliable in canopy or foliage covered areas. With both single- and multi-frequency hardware, Atlas achieves instant global sub-meter positioning accuracy, comparable to, and typically more robust than SBAS, since Atlas corrections contain data from multiple available constellations.

CASE STUDY: HOW ATLAS® CORRECTION SERVICE IS POSITIONING AGRICULTURE FOR SUCCESS IN ARGENTINA

Plantium in Santa Fe, Argentina, is a full-service provider of precision agricultural guidance systems to some of Argentina’s largest farming operations. The company makes its own guidance and control devices, installs them, and offers farmers real-time, remote support if required. Precision agriculture is a very large market, and to compete with multi-national firms in this space, Plantium has to be competitive primarily with outstanding customer service and end-to-end attention to detail. In 2015, Plantium switched to the Atlas GNSS Global Correction Service as the primary means of providing precise, real-time location corrections to their customers, and the receivers they design and build themselves are based on Atlas-ready OEM boards from Hemisphere GNSS.

The Atlas GNSS Global Correction Service, developed and administered by Hemisphere, is a subscription-based global corrections service delivered by L-band satellites. “L-Band” is a 1 to 2 GHz frequency band allocated to satellite navigation and telecommunications, and Hemisphere builds L-band capability into Atlas-ready receivers and OEM boards to provide worldwide, scalable, real-time kinematic (RTK) location accuracy with corrections based on modern satellite constellations — GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou — and approximately 200 reference stations around the world. Corrections from the reference stations are transmitted to Atlas-enabled receivers via L-band and strategically located geostationary satellites.

“We design, manufacture, and sell precision agriculture systems, including automatic pilot/steering, spraying control, seed metering, etc.,” says Plantium Robotics Engineer Federico Baulies. “We also design and build our own monitors, controllers, and autopilots into existing machinery. Our autopilot and mapping functionalities absolutely require robust positioning in difficult atmospheric conditions, low convergence times, and very high reliability — as close to 100% uptime as possible. We have been using Atlas for well over a year now, and on all these factors it is absolutely a better solution for our applications, and our clients. And Hemisphere has been better in ways we did not expect as well, like their support and the attention they give to their OEM boards that we build into our equipment. Atlas is the best option in our region.”
